DAVAO CITY: Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte remained the team to beat for the city’s two top posts.
On Friday, Vice Mayor Paolo, filed his COC for reelection. He runs unopposed under the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a local political party.
Duterte is challenged by a former Overseas Filipino Worker, Alfred Tocante, and mechanical engineer Teodoro Mantilla, who was declared a nuisance candidate in 2007.
The call for Mayor Duterte to run for president reached fever pitch on Friday when his supporters trooped to the Comelec office in Intramuros in Manila.
The elder Duterte ended speculations on Friday when he reiterrated that he is not interested in the presidency.
At the Comelec Davao City office, Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod bets, mostly reelectionists in three districts, dominated the line-up of candidates for councilors.
Luz Ilagan, who is the incumbent Gabriela Party-list representative, is running for a city council post.
The City Comelec office will send its list of candidates to the law department in Comelec in Manila for screening.
Comelec Assistant Regional Director Marlon Casquejo said the official list will be released by December 10.
The official list will be the basis for the printing of ballots for the 2016 elections.
