THE PDP-Laban party of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte on Monday signed a coalition partnership with the Nacionalista Party, where his losing running mate Alan Peter Cayetano belongs.
Manny Villar, Nacionalista Party president and former Senate president, and PDP-Laban President Sen. Aquilino Pimentel 3rd signed the “coalition for change agreement” in the presence of Duterte.
The signing took place at the end of a 90-minute news conference presided over by Duterte in Davao City’s Matina Enclaves, a condominium complex.
Duterte was proclaimed PDP-Laban party chairman last Feb. 9.
Cayetano, the Senate Majority Leader, was one of three Nacionalista members who ran for vice president. No Nacionalista Party member ran for president.
He is expected to finish third in the race, where another Nacionalista Party member, Sen. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., is in a neck-and-neck race with Liberal Party’s Rep. Leni Robredo.
Marcos’ Senate term has ended, but Cayetano, like two other senators who ran in the May 9 national elections (Grace Poe and Francis Escudero) will simply return to the Senate as they still have three more years to go.
