President Rodrigo Duterte will be a game changer especially for the poor.
The sentiment was voiced on Friday by Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who wished Duterte well in his journey as the new leader of the Philippines.
“On behalf of my family, I extend my warmest congratulations to our new President, Rodrigo Duterte,” Marcos said in a statement.
The senator added, “He means a lot of things to many people. A father, a son, a brother, a tough ayor and now President. But to me, he will always be a very good friend. A man who stays true, a man of integrity, a man of extreme loyalty,” the senator added.
Duterte had been mayor of Davao City in southern Mindanao for more than 20 years.
“There is no doubt that President Duterte can very well steer this country toward real change that will be felt by all sectors, especially the underprivileged. He has the courage, compassion and the dedication to lead every Filipino and give equal opportunity to progress.,” Marcos said.
He pledged his support to the new President.
“President Duterte will always have my support and I am one with every Filipino in this feeling of excitement as we welcome a new era in our country’s history,” the senator said.
Although Marcos was the running mate of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago in the May 9 elections, the senator was Duterte’s vice presidential candidate in those polls.
