EMILIO Aguinaldo College Generals continue its effort to enter the Final Four when they battle host College of Saint Benilde Blazers at 4 p.m. today in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
A victory of the Generals (7-7 win-loss slate) of coach Gerry Esplana today over the Blazers will strengthen their hold of the solo fifth spot putting them just half a game away from solo fourth-running San Sebastian College Stags (8-6).
And with only several games before the completion of the second round elimination, only defending titlist San Beda College Red Lions (13-2) are assured of a Final Four slot, thanks to their 72-68 win over the Stags on Monday.
Eplana’s team can still tie Letran Knights (11-3) and University of Perpetual Help Altas (11-5) if the Generals can sweep their remaining four matches.
EAC, which joined the oldest collegiate league in the country as a guest team in 2009, continue to be a threat to San Sebastian. The Stags are closing in on the fourth spot through two straight victories; the first was against Letran, 87-64, on September 21, while the second was over Lyceum Pirates, 71-64, on September 26.
In the second seniors game, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers meet cellar dweller Mapua Cardi-nals at 6 p.m. The second matches pit EAC Brigadiers against St. Benilde-LSGH Greenies at 12 p.m. and JRU Light Bombers against Mapua Red Robins at 2 p.m.
