EAC, Perpetual clash in do-or-die match for NCAA volleyball crown

Defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA will be disputing the men’s crown in the do-or-die match of the National Collegiate Athletic association Season 91 volleyball finals at The Arena in San Juan City.

The EAC-Perpetual Help rubber match is at 2 p.m.

The Generals won in Game 1 via a 25-22, 14-25, 25-14, 25-16 decision before the Altas bounced back with a 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19 win in Game 2.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica, Israel Encina, Kerth Melliza and Hariel Doguna are expected to go all-out for the Generals, who are aiming to nail a back-to-back romp.

But things won’t be easy for them as the Altas bannered by equally impressive Rey Taneo Jr., Ranidean Abcede, Warren Catipay and Bonjomar Castel vowed to bring back their glory days.

In the women’s division, College of Saint Benilde will be shooting for its first-ever title when it faces San Sebastian College in Game 3 of their own finals series.

The Lady Blazers collide with the Lady Stags at 4 p.m. with the former hoping to duplicate their 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 25-13 win in Game 1 and 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16 victory in Game 2.

Benilde needs to win one more game against the top-seeded San Sebastian – a thrice-to-beat holder after sweeping the elimination round.

Power-hitters Jeanette Panaga, Janine Navarro and Ranya Musa will be leading the front line of the Lady Blazers along with veteran setter Djanel Welch Cheng.

For its part, San Sebastian’s offense will focus on national mainstay Grethcel Soltones, who averaged 27.0 points in the series but Nikka Dalisay, Joyce Sta. Rita, Katherine Villegas and Dangie Encarnacion must also step up for the Lady Stags.
