• EAC subdues Perpetual in NCAA men’s volley


    Defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) stopped University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 25-20, 25-22, 25-17, to clinch one of the twice-to-beat cards in the Final Four on Friday in the National Athletic Association Season 91 men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

    The Generals got a huge lift from reigning Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica who delivered 20 points on 15 kills and five aces while Kerth Melliza contributed 12, and Israel Encina and Hariel Doguna added a combined 15-point output.

    EAC wrapped up the elimination round with a 9-1 card.

    Team captain Bonjomar Castel produced a measly five-point showing while Rey Taneo, Patrick Ramos, Neil Ytorzaita and Phillipe Abcede only got four each as the Altas absorbed their first loss in eight games.

    In the women’s division, Perpetual Help earned the last Final Four slot following its 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 win over EAC.

    The Lady Altas improved to 6-2 to join San Sebastian College (8-0), Arellano University (7-1) and College of Saint Benilde Blazers (6-1) in the semifinals.

    In juniors, EAC outlasted Perpetual Help, 25-27, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 15-7, to earn a twice-to-beat in the Final Four.

    Ralph Joshua Pitogo had 22 and Cee-Jay Hicap scored 18 to tow the Brigadiers to a 6-1 card while the Junior Altas dropped to 5-1.
