Eagles rookie backtracks on anthem boycott vow

LOS ANGELES: Philadelphia Eagles rookie Myke Tavarres pledged Monday (Tuesday in Manila) to emulate Colin Kaepernick by refusing to stand for the US national anthem, only to backtrack on the issue hours later. Tavarres, 23, said he planned to sit during the anthem when the Eagles hosted the New York Jets in Philadelphia on Thursday. But hours later, Tavarres’s agent Corey Williams said the player would stand for the playing of “The Star Spangled Banner.” “He plans on standing for the national anthem,” Williams said in a statement.
