SEVERAL areas in the eastern part of the Philippines on Thursday were placed under storm signals as tropical depression Marce continued its approach
State weather forecasters said Marce was posited some 160 km east-northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph.
It was last seen moving west-northwest at 17 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 was hoisted over the following areas, which can expect up to 60 kph winds within the next 36 hours: Romblon, Cuyo Island, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bohol,
Cebu, including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental,
Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Surigao del Norte, including Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin.
Marce is expected to traverse Visayas over the remainder of the week and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Monday morning.
