TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte: Eastern Visayas is initially seeking P298.12 billion to finance the Three-Year Rolling Infrastructure Program (TRIP) designed to lift the regional economy by the end of 2018. The National Economic and Development Authority prepared a program list based on projects endorsed by the Regional Development Council (RDC) under the updated plan for 2014 to 2016. “The total amount is just preliminary and we asked RDC members to review the list and come up with a final list during the council’s meeting this week,” said NEDA Regional Director Bonifacio Uy, also RDC vice chairman. Some officials are seeking inclusion of road construction projects in the list to connect remote towns to the national road. “We also asked national government agencies to validate and revise the list. If they feel that a project is critical to regional development, they can make a proposal,” Uy said. Of the total, P196.46 billion is for roads, bridges, seaports and airports; P1.45 billion for water supply; P2.13 billion for flood control; P16.11 billion for irrigation; P42.5 billion for energy; P27.5 for social infrastructure; P2.29 billion for peace and security; P7.18 billion for environmental management; and P9.65 billion for post-disaster reconstruction.
