Playing tag at the park with friends, painting colorful murals on a wall with our bare hands, enjoying mom’s home-cooked meals served from a picnic basket—during our early years, weekends were warm, charming, simple and spontaneous.
Today, congested malls overshadow green parks, pixels on tiny screens have taken the place of creativity and play, and fast food has taken over the nutritious, heartwarming meals we once enjoyed.
Every Saturday, withdraw from the densely packed and crowded city, and spend a rejuvenating day at the Wellness Weekend, happening amidst the lush Greenfield Open Park, a delightful expanse of verdant Bermuda grass in Mandaluyong City.
“In conjunction with the Greenfield Weekend Market, we’re offering a variety of activities to help people get started with their healthy and balanced lifestyle,” says Michael Andan, Corporate Planning-Business Development head.
Offering a refreshing break, the district has served as the venue for exciting activities, including music festivals, art fairs, and a weekly weekend market.
Lift up your spirits
Art is more than just a form of entertainment; it has the ability to evoke positive feelings—to enlighten, inspire and lift one’s spirits, which contribute to one’s overall wellbeing.
Experience the healing power of art at Wellness Weekend: visit vendors’ galleries to browse through contemporary pieces by local artists, have your portrait done by members of the Agos Kulay Foundation, or participate in live art sessions at the Open Park field.
After stimulating your aesthetic senses, grab healthy home-cooked meals and desserts from the dozens of stalls at the park. Then, spread a blanket on the bermuda grass or grab a seat beside one of the picnic tables, and dine while being serenaded by a string quartet.
Complete your Wellness Weekend by setting your body in balance at the Candlelit Yoga Class, designed to let the nervous system settle down and prepare the mind and body for a good night’s sleep. The practice incorporates poses from yin and restorative yoga, releasing tension in commonly tight areas like the hips and legs, and promoting circulation in the back.
Lastly, learn to cook a hearty dish or two at the Vegetarian Cooking Class. Then, stock up on fresh and locally grown organic produce, as well as skin and body care products made from all-natural ingredients, and take the Wellness Weekend experience with you when you get home.
Greenfield Weekend Market happens every Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Greenfield District. For more information and updates on special events like, www.facebook.com/GreenfieldWeekendMarket.
