‘ECONOMY OF EXCLUSION’ LEAVES OUT POOR

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) took the government to task for the “sluggish” implementation of laws meant to close the gap between the poor and the wealthy. CBCP President and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas said the people “should not support, abet, encourage an economy of exclusion and inequality, as such economy kills.” Laws enacted to close the gap between the wealthy and the poor, the powerful and the disempowered, the housed and the homeless are sluggishly implemented or implemented in the breach, Villegas lamented.
