THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to begin this year construction of two projects that are expected to alleviate seemingly unending traffic jams in Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
The Metro Manila Interchange Construction Project Phase VI will look into the building of two-level interchanges: the EDSA-North Avenue-West Avenue interchange and the Mindanao Avenue interchange.
One interchange will start at the end of the Quezon Avenue flyover and end at the Dario Bridge in Muñoz, while the other will begin at Congressional Avenue also in Muñoz and end at Mindanao Avenue.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said in a statement on Wednesday that the P 4-billion Phase VI project will also see construction of a third interchange.
The second proposed project is the Gil Puyat Avenue-Paseo de Roxas-Makati Avenue Underpass or the P 1.27-billion, 600-meter Buendia Tunnel, which is expected to ease traffic congestion in Makati City and EDSA areas.
According to the DPWH, the projects–the Metro Manila Interchange Construction Project Phase VI and the Buendia Tunnel–are expected to be finished by the last quarter of 2016 or in the first quarter of 2017.
“Our intention is to improve or enhance traffic mobility not only in Metro Manila but also in nearby provinces,” said Regional Director Reynaldo Tagudando of the DPWH-National Capital Region.
