NICOSIA: Al-Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy will soon be freed from an Egyptian jail, Canada's foreign minister said Monday, a day after the release of his Australian colleague Peter Greste.

Foreign Minister John Baird told Canada's public broadcaster that the release of the Egyptian-Canadian was "imminent", in a statement his spokesman confirmed but declined to elaborate on.
