Eight arrested for vote buying in Bulacan


POLICE on Sunday arrested eight persons for alleged vote buying in Guiguinto and Marilao in Bulacan province.

Reports gathered by The Manila Times showed Guiguinto Police at about 1:30 p.m. yesterday responded to an alleged vote buying incident that was happening inside the RIS Warehouse in Barangay Tabe that was owned by former mayor Isagani Pascual, who is currently running for the town’s top post.

The six suspects who were arrested were identified as Jhon Gerome San Juan and his live in partner Tracy Ann Ocampo, both 20 years old and of Balagtas; Rosario Jose, 30, married of Barangay Bacood; Dante De Castro, 47, married of Barangay Santa Rita; and Ofelia Sison Principe, 65, married of Santa Rita in Guiguinto.

Police also arrested the security guard Marvin Giron for obstruction of justice.

The suspects, who were placed under the custody of the Guiguinto Police Station, admitted they received money to vote for Pascual and his team.

“Grabe, very rampant, ang ginagawa nilang vote buying. Harapang pambabastos [The vote buying is very grave and rampant. It is blatant violation of the law],” said Eduardo Mariano, Guiguinto election Officer.

In Marilao town, the Bulacan Police Provincial Public Safety Company led by PO2 Fredric Silvestre arrested two suspects for alleged vote buying. They were identified as Jesus Dela Cruz, 55, married of Villarica Road, Barangay Prenza 1; and Emerlinda Ventura,47, married also of the same place.

They were both arrested in the act of buying votes from residents of Barangay Prenza within the premises of one Rosenda Santiago.

Recovered from the suspects were barangay voters list, sample ballot of incumbent Mayor Juanito Santiago and P20,000 in cash.
