The European Innovation, Technology and Science Center Foundation (EITSC) has launched a program that will provide meaningful employment to high school graduates and help ease the problems caused by unemployment in the country, a senior official said on Wednesday.
EITSC Executive Director Dominic Sabado said the program involves developing a platform where senior high school seniors can acquire skills need for employment and by aligning academic curriculum with the needs of various industries.
“There is a distinct need for a platform where senior high school students can acquire skills and tools necessary to be employed. We want this project to align the academic curriculum of educational institutions with what the various industries require,” he said.
Government data showed that about 44 percent of 2.90 unemployed are in high school and 33 percent in college.
EITSC is an initiative of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP). It launched the dual training program as the government began implementing its K+12 system.
Sabado said students will become employment-ready after undergoing on-the-job training in the various industries and employers will have a farm program where they can evaluate the individuals they can hire.
To jumpstart the program, the EITSC has attracted the STI Education Services Group as its first partner but it also received support from 15 member companies of the ECCP.
STI Vice President for Academics Dr. Lloyd Bautista said ther one-year partnership with EITSC is expected to boost the capacity of their high school students to be ready for work or to pursue a college degree.
“We have recognized that one of the glaring disconnects in Philippine education is the weak partnership between the industry and academe,” Bautista said.
STI has more than 80,000 students in one university and a network of 79 campuses nationwide.
The 15 companies supporting the program, which cut across several industries, include Aaron Engineering Outsourcing, Azumi Boutique Serviced Residences, Civet Fashion, EPS Manpower Services, First Environtech Alliance Corp., Hospitality Innovators, Inc., Linaheim Corporate Services, Parque España Residence Hotel, Picasso Boutique Serviced Residences, PNI Business Solutions, PNI International Corp., PNI Manpower Division, Puratos Philippines, Rudolf Lietz, Inc., and Solid Business Machines Center.
