RAIN or Shine and Petron face separate foes today in the most crucial phase of the elimination round of the 39th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters (10-3) are currently occupying the second spot behind Ginebra (10-2) while the Blaze Boosters (9-4) are closely trailing. The three teams are the only remaining contenders for the twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals phase.
Petron takes on dangerous Meralco Bolts at 3:30 p.m. while Rain or Shine meets cellar dweller Air 21 Express in the second game at 5:45 p.m.
A win by Coach Yeng Guiao’s Elasto Painters over the Express (3-10) would allow them to clinch one of the two twice-to-beat incentives regardless of the outcome of the game between Petron and Meralco. But a loss by Rain or Shine would keep the hope of Petron alive provided Coach Gee Abanilla’s Blaze Boosters would prevail over Meralco.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena expressed interest to bid anew for the right to broadcast PBA games. Laurena said his network would begin exploratory talks as soon as PBA’s contract with TV5 expired.
