Elasto Painters stake hold of solo lead


RAIN or Shine stake its hold of the solo leadership when it take on also unbeaten Ginebra Kings while Alaska face Barako Bull today in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Elasto Painters, who secured their second straight win following a 94-89 beating of Meralco Bolts on Friday, face the Kings at 5:15 p.m. The Alaska Aces that entered the win column after an 84-80 triumph over San Mig Coffee also on Friday, meet Energy Cola at 3:00 p.m.

Coach Yeng Guiao’s Elasto Painters opened their campaign with an 87-74 victory over Alaska during the opening day at the University of Southeastern University gym in Davao City.

They posted a shooting average of 40.5 percent in the field goal and was 42.9 on 12-of-28 in the three-point zone against Meralco. Jeff Chan had three triples while Beau Belga, Ryan Arana and Paul Lee notched two each as they outgunned Meralco, 28-19, in the third period en rout to their second straight win early in the All-Filipino conference.

Ginebra, on the other hand, will again rely on the prowess of Japeth Aguilar, Greg Slaughter and Jay-Arr Reyes, who combined for 38 points and 30 rebounds in their 86-69 victory over the Coffee Mixers on Sunday.
