It was no surprise when Ellen Adarna was introduced as 2015’s Ginebra San Miguel calendar girl on Thursday at the ballroom of Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City. After all, she is, to use the ‘90s slang for “every man’s dream,” the reigning “pantasya ng bayan.”

The 26-year-old Cebuana of Spanish and Chinese descent seemed overwhelmed by the grand gathering the liquor brand organized for the official announcement.

“They’ve always gotten huge celebrities to be their cover girl so it’s such an honor to be chosen for 2015,” she gushed.

The Manila Times soon learned that besides revealing the coming year’s cover girl—considered a highly anticipated showbiz event—GSM is actually celebrating its 180th year, thus the big kickoff.

On the up
Ellen recently concluded her starring role on ABS-CBN’s top-rating afternoon series Moon of Desire, and she is gearing up for a brand new series on the same network titled Pasion de Amor. She is also part of the ensemble cast of Skylight Films and Quantum Films’ current sexy comedy Beauty In A Bottle.

Being GSM’s newest calendar girl for 2015 is another milestone in Ellen’s career as she joins the ranks of the country’s most iconic and sexiest women who have posed for the legendary and highly anticipated annual calendar.

Explaining their choice in the fairly new showbiz celebrity, GSMI vice president and marketing manager Nelson Elises said, “Ellen Adarna is arguably the hottest and sexiest young actress in the industry today. She has a very strong and loyal fan base and we are very proud and ganadong-ganado to welcome her on board as our 2015 calendar girl.”

Tribute year
In line with the brand’s 180th anniversary, the theme of its 2015 calendar is “Ganado Sa Buhay” as it aims to pay tribute and give homage to hard working Filipino men who are the main consumers of the range of drinks.

“They work hard so they could provide a good future for their family and to keep them ready to face the challenges of tomorrow—and they drink GSM,” said Elises.

In keeping with the theme, Ellen was shot against the backdrops of a rice field, a construction site, and the sea-side to honor and represent farmers, construction workers, and fishermen.

At the calendar launch, the company duly honored the working class Filipino men as represented by farmer Dick Alipio Evasco from Atok, Benguet; construction worker Alfredo “Ada” Abastas from Metro Manila; and fisherman Mosies Mesa from Binangonan, Rizal. They were each given plaques of recognition, and special GSM packages.

The brand also mounted a Ginebra San Miguel 180 Travelling Exhibit that has been going around the country since its launch earlier this year.

“This is GSM’s way of showing its appreciation for the patronage and support of millions of Filipinos for the past 180 years, and for keeping the brand as the number 1 selling gin in the world,” Elises continued.

The travelling exhibit features the brand’s past calendar girls which include Anjanette Abayari (1994), Alma Concepcion (1995), Michelle Aldana (1998), Janna Victoria (1999), Patricia Javier (2000), Geneva Cruz (2001), Rica Peralejo (2002), Aubrey Miles (2003), Belinda Bright and Maricar De Mesa (2004), Angelica Panganiban (2007), Marian Rivera (2009 and 2014), Anne Curtis (2011), Solenn Heusaff (2012), and Georgina Wilson (2013).
