Rep. Jackie Enrile of Cagayan, who ran for senator under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in May, shelled out P150 million for his campaign, making him the biggest spender, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) which reviewed the statements
of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) of the candidates.

The Comelec said Enrile spent a total of P150,401,072.09 for his campaign. He received P150,797,910.18 in contributions.

Former Movie and Television Review and Classification Board chairman Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares, meanwhile ,spent a total of P123,448,994.86 for her senatorial bid.

According to her SOCE, she received a total of P123,605,341.27 campaign contributions.

Her mother, actress Susan Roces, gave Llamanzares P173,902.72 while her father’s company, FPJ Productions, contributed P12,701,955.56.

President Benigno Aquino 3rd’s cousin, Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino received campaign contributions worth P125,493,000 and spent P124,327,987.81 for his campaign last month.

The Comelec said not all candidates who participated in the last elections have submitted their respective SOCEs. Filing SOCEs is a requirement under Republic Act 7166.

The law mandates every candidate and treasurer of a political party to file an itemized statement of all contributions and expenditures within 30 days after election day. Those who failed to submit the required SOCEs can be penalized with an administrative fine of from P2,000 to P30,000 for the first offense, P2,000 to P60,000 for the second offense, depending on the position. Also, failure to submit SOCE can lead to a candidate’s disqualification from holding a public office.

Where did Nancy Binay get the approximately P 114M that she personally spent in the election campaign? I think this calls for an investigation based on her income tax returns .
