In addition to Haribon members, it also unites Haribon partners, stakeholders, conservationists, fellow NGOs, and the general public to unite for the sake of conservation.

Haribon also invites various TV personalities as its ambassadors for its annual campaigns. This year, the organization welcomes the newest addition to its growing family of biodiversity staunch defenders, The Half Sister’s star Barbie Forteza and Starstruck alumnus Enzo Pineda from GMA Artist Center.

When asked about their views on environmental protection, both Enzo and Barbie express their strong belief in prioritizing the conservation of our natural resources. Enzo, an avid traveller, believes that the pleasure people get from spending time outdoors might be threatened by man’s own recklessness. He says that if society continues to exploit the world, it will be to man’s own disadvantage in the not-so-long run.

He adds, “I’m very thankful and honored to be given the chance to be an ambassador of Haribon and to be a protector of Mother Nature. I love our country! The Filipinos are blessed to live in a place that is rich in natural resources and beautiful creatures endemic in many of our regions. I’m excited with the many activities that Haribon has planned. I want to focus on all aspects of preserving our environment. Initially I would like to participate in tree planting activities and bird watching events. Through my participation in these activities and the campaigns related to these activities I intend to spread environmental awareness to all my fellow youth in the Philippines.”

Barbie echoes her partner’s sentiments, as the singer/actress believes that taking part in the environmental conservation movement stems from practicing it in one’s everyday life. “I am thankful to Haribon for giving me the opportunity to be a teen advocate for environmental conservation. Para sa akin napaka¬laking responsibility ito at gagawin ko ang lahat upang maging mabuting ambassador ng organization at powerful influence para sa mga kabataan in terms of environmental conservation,” she Barbie said. She feels that small yet consistent acts such as reducing waste demonstrate the true spirit of being a champion for nature.

These two eco-advocates stand before the entire Haribon crowd, willing and daring to inspire more people to be environmental supporters as well. Enzo and Barbie are both fully aware that their position as members of the media comes with the responsibility to do more. They hope that with Haribon’s efforts, they can inspire more kids and teens to actively live out the advocacy in their daily lives. The two new ambassadors are fully aware that the road to safeguarding the world’s natural resources is long as it is daunting, but such a cause is one that is worth the grind.

At the end of the day, environmental protection is everybody’s concern. Recent calamities and complications demand a sense of urgency and action from every person, entity, and organization. With young, active, and passionate ambassadors championing the cause, Haribon hopes to get the advocacy of environmental protection more prevalent especially with the youth. With a more empowered generation of movers, the dream of having a more sustainable future can be a reality.
