Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada on Wednesday said he may run for reelection in 2016 if Vice Mayor Isko Moreno will seek a higher office.
“I have palabra de honor (word of honor). I promised my vice mayor. If the Vice Mayor will change his mind, then I will run for reelection,” Estrada told reporters.
“If the people will ask for it, then we can do nothing,” he added.
Estrada in December last year said he will no longer run for mayor because he promised to give way to Moreno.
But the vice mayor had said he will not run against Estrada if he decides to seek another term. He said he may run for senator or congressman instead.
Asked if he has a message to former mayor Alfredo Lim, Estrada said: “God bless him and may he be empowered in his retirement.”
Lim lost to Estrada by 30,000 votes in 2013.
