Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada observed the fourth death anniversary of the country’s first female president, Corazon Aquino, by offering a prayer at her monument in Rizal Park and viewing her paintings on exhibit at the Manila Hotel.
After a short visit at the Aquino Monument at the corner of Padre Burgos Avenue and Rozas Boulevard, Estrada proceeded to the Manila Hotel where paintings of the late president are on display. The exhibit titled “A Gift to Self,” showcases 80 canvass paintings of Mrs. Aquino which she gave as gifts to her family and friends.
Estrada and Aquino had a falling out in 2001 when she urged the people to rally against the sitting president.
Estrada was later ousted and jailed for plunder. In 2008, Mrs. Aquino apologized for having supported former president Gloria Arroyo, saying she thought Arroyo was the better alternative to Estrada.
Mrs. Aquino gave a painting of yellow and green flowers to Estrada. It is included in the exhibit, and the mayor took time to view the painting once again.
President Benigno Aquino 3rd and his sisters commemorated the death anniversary of their mother at her gravesite at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City.
The President, his sisters Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, Pinky Aquino-Abellada and Viel Aquino-Dee, several members of the Cabinet and close family friends attended the 3 p.m. mass for the late president at the cemetery.
