PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Officer-in-Charge Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina has been named the number two man of the police organization.
The National Police Commission (Napolcom) approved General Order number 2676 naming Espina as the deputy chief for administration.
Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo Jr., who was among the officials being considered to replace resigned PNP chief Alan Purisima, assumed Espina’s vacated post.
Espina has been the OIC of the police force for more than a month. President Benigno Aquino 3rd has yet to appoint a permanent chief for the PNP.
The position of the Chief of Directorial Staff left by Garbo was given to Director Danilo Constantino, former chief of the Directorate for Police Community Relations. Constantino’s replacement has yet to be named.
Espina was the deputy chief for operations when Aquino appointed him OIC following the suspension of Purisima over graft charges.
Purisima resigned at the height of the Mamasapano controversy.
