Espinosa, Manduriao rule HEAD Dumaguete


HANNAH Espinosa and Erika Manduriao bested their respective rivals to rule the sixth leg of the 2013 HEAD Junior Satellite Circuit national tennis age-group tournament at the Praxevilla tennis courts in Dumaguete City.

Espinosa captured the girls’ singles 18-under title by routing Erika Manduriao 7-5, 6-2, “I put a lot of energy in the first set and I’m happy to win another title in this tournament,” said the National University standout Espinosa, who also clinched the girls’ 18-under singles crown in the HEAD’s tilt Cebu leg recently.

But Manduriao redeemed herself by nipping Zethley Mae Alferez 5-7, 6-3, 10-4, in the girls’ singles 16-under class finals.

In the 14-under girls’ finals, Cebu bet Zethley Mae Alferez defeated Gennifer Pagente 6-0, 6-2.

In the boys’ division, Davao City’s Christian Fell Lopez won the boys’ 18 and 16-under singles titles against teammate Joel Cantilla via walkover ruling.

In the 14-under boys’ championship round, Bernard Haft of Dumaguete City thumped Fahd Kenneth Banico, 2-6, 7-6 (2), 11-9.

Jyle Cyrin Martinez of Davao City won against Joshua Angelo Regino 6-1, 4-6, 10-8, to rule the 12-under category while Fern Alekzander Po of Bacolod City whipped Dumaguete bet Blake Solon 6-0, 6-1, in the 10-under unisex class.
