Estrada to pursue public market rehab

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada found basis to pursue his plans to rehabilitate the old public market after it was destroyed by fire that brutally killed a mother and her three minor children on Sunday evening. Estrada issued a statement stressing he will “pursue with the renovation of public markets considered to be fire traps and unsanitary to consumers in the capital city.” The Sangguniang Panglunsod earlier passed the Manila Joint Venture Ordinance, declaring that several of the city’s 17 public markets will be demolished to pave the way for their rehabilitation through a public-private sector partnership. Set for rehabilitation are public markets in Quinta, Sta. Ana, Sampaloc, San Andres, Trabajo, Pritil, Dagonoy, and Paco.
