To ensure excellent medical service, Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada wants all six city-run hospitals to be International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certified. So far, only the Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital in Tondo is ISO certified. Estrada poured P500-million for the modernization of the six hospitals to improve medical and healthcare services for the 1.7 million residents of the city. He instructed the overall coordinator of the six city hospitals doctor Regina Bagsic to ensure that the hospitals are at par with international standards. The other five city-run hospitals are Santa Ana Hospital, Ospital ng Tondo, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, and Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center. One of the indications of the improvements of hospital services in Manila, Bagsic said, is the number of patient admissions. Overall, 16,598 patients were served and treated in the six city hospitals during the last six months, excluding the 141,474 others out-patients.
