Arraignment of several defendants facing charges in connection with the “Euro generals” scandal did not push through on Tuesday. The Sandiganbayan’s Second Division reset the arraignment to July 16. The former Philippine National Police (PNP) director for finance service, Chief Supt. Orlando Pestaño, and special disbursing officer Supt. Samuel Rodriguez filed separate motions seeking dismissal of charges of graft and illegal use of public funds leveled against them. They were charged along with several other former police officers in connection with the release of multi-million European notes (P10 million), which were intercepted at a Russian airport in October 2008. Deputy Director Gen. Emmanuel Rivera Carta, Director German Barut Doria and Director Jaime Garcia Caringal, who were also charged with graft, joined the move to defer arraignment pending motions during the scheduled arraignment on Tuesday. Doria is also seeking the dismissal of the case against him.
