NORTHERN Europe this time of year isn’t the most hospitable with its dark, cold weather, but nevertheless, being selected as one of only six Filipino journalists to visit Brussels was a rare privilege. The European delegation in Manila invited me, together with veteran journalist Marichu Villenueva of Philippine Star, Bernie Magkilat of Manila Bulletin, Paterno Esmaquel of Rappler, Claire Jiao of CNN Philippines and last, but not least, Richard Heydarian of international fame, on a four-day visit to Brussels to learn more about the EU and its institutions.
