FILIPINO flyweight Geje Eustaquio scored a unanimous decision win over Japanese Kentaro Watanabe in the One Fighting Championship’s Era of Champions Fight Card at the Mata Elang Stadium on Saturday in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Although he was hit by Watanabe’s solid punches in first round and was almost beaten up, Eustaquio came back in the last two rounds with his vicious counter-striking ability that simply outlasted the Japanese, who dropped to 10-5 win-loss card.
“I hope One FC will give me a title shot in Manila. I gave my best out there. Watanabe is a good fighter too,” said Eustaquio, a sanda wushu fighter, who now improves to 6-2 win-loss slate.
The victory earned Eustaquio a title shot for the vacant flyweight title match against Brazilian Adriano Moraes (11-1), who submitted Japanese Kosuke Suzuki (10-4-2) in the main event via triangle choke in third round.
Filipino fighters Jomanz Omanz and Ruel Catalan, however, bowed in their respective foes.
Muay specialist Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke (1-0) scored a technical knockout win (knees) against Omanz (0-1) in first round, while Malaysian Gianni Subba (4-1) forced Catalan (2-5) into submission via triangle choke in second round.
