FORMER Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Emmanuel Bautista has been appointed as an undersecretary in the office of President Benigno Aquino 3rd.
Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. on Tuesday said Bautista will be designated as executive director of the security, justice and peace cluster of the Aquino Cabinet.
The cluster leads policy discussions on key issues such as territorial disputes and peace talks.
Coloma said Bautista will be coordinating with Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., who remains the chairman of the security council.
With the retired general’s experience in the military, Coloma said Bautista is expected to give important inputs on security matters, including the West Philippine Sea dispute.
Bautista, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1981, retired in July after more than three decades of service in the military.
As the military’s deputy chief of staff for operations, he led the formulation of the Aquino government’s counter-insurgency campaign, the Internal Peace and Security Plan or “Oplan Bayanihan.”
