Former Rep. Rodolfo Plaza of Agusan del Sur has posted bail for his provisional liberty last week in connection with the graft, malversation, and direct bribery charges he is facing.
He was one of five former lawmakers charged by the Office of the Ombudsman in February in connection with the alleged misuse of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel fund scam.
The anti-graft court approved Plaza’s request to reduce the required bond to 50 percent of the recommended bail bonds, provided that the amounts are paid in cash,” saying that it adopts the same standard it set for the other accused on motions they filed similarly seeking a reduction of bail.
This meant that Plaza had to pay P75,000 for the five counts of graft, P100,000 for the five malversation cases, and P20,000 for the two counts of direct bribery. He posted a total of P195,000 last September 16, based on a verification made with the Sandiganbayan’s Cashier Division.
Last February, the Office of the Ombudsman filed separate graft, malversation and direct bribery charges against Plaza as well as former Representatives Samuel Dangwa of Benguet, and Constantino Jaraula of Cagayan de Oro.
The office filed separate plunder and graft charges against former Rep. Edgar Valdez of the Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives, and former Rep. and now Governor Rizalina Seachon-Lanete of Masbate.
