Ex-barangay chairman, companion killed in Calbayog City attack


A former village chairman and his companion were shot dead by two unidentified men on Monday morning at a suburban village in Calbayog City. Reports reaching Camp Crame identified the victims as Fernando Ygrubay, a former barangay chairman, and Michael Catalan. The duo was about to board their vehicle in Brgy. Capoocan when the suspects started shooting. Both men died immediately. Ygruban’s wife, Marian, and their 4-year-old son was also with them but were left unharmed by the assailants. Marian is the incumbent chairwoman of Brgy. Cabicahan. Witnesses told investigators that the two gunmen quickly fled on motorcycles.
