BAGUIO CITY, Benguet: An unidentified gunman shot dead a former barangay head, who was supervising road workers in Bangued, Abra last Saturday, police said.
Sr. Supt. Albertito Garcia, Abra police director, said the gunman shot Alejandro Quitevis Baay Jr on the chest with a .45 caliber pistol while he supervised a road project in Sitio Sukib barangay Lobong.
“He was rushed to the Seares Memorial Hospital but he died along the way,” Garcia said.
Baay was former barangay chairman of Cosili East. His wife took over his post after his term ended in 2010.
Investigators were still looking for witnesses, who could identify the suspect. Some people connected the killing with local politics but police said they could not find any conclusive motivation.
Garcia said the only evidence they have were the blood samples taken at the scene and a cigarette butt on the spot where the suspected killer was positioned when he shot Baay.
