The wife and daughter of a retired police general died at the height of a fire that gutted their house in a posh village in Quezon City on Monday.

Chief Insp. Aristotle Banyaga of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the victims as Marilyn Rafanan, 69, and Sarah Rafanan, 27.

Retired police General Ismael Rafanan was out of their house in Capitol Estates Subdivision when the fire occurred at 7:15 a.m.

Banyaga said Marilyn was found dead inside the comfort room while Sarah was found in her room at the second floor.

The fire was controlled by the Quezon City fire fighters at around 8:30 a.m.

Banyaga could not ascertain the cause of fire as of press time, but he said all possible angles would be thoroughly investigated.

He however, noted that initial investigation showed that there was an explosion inside the room of Sarah before the fire occurred.

Before he retired from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Rafanan was one of the “Euro generals” accused of using P10-million of the police’s intelligence funds in attending a seminar held in Russia in 2008.
