FORMER Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman Efraim Genuino was arraigned on 39 counts of graft and malversation charges on Thursday but he refused to enter any plea. The Sandiganbayan’s Third Division entered a not guilty plea in his behalf.
Likewise arraigned were Rafael Francisco, Jose Benedicto and Valente Custodio all entered no pleas.
The charges were filed against Genuino and six others in May 2013 over the alleged anomalous purchase of ‘Baler’ movie tickets, illegal donations to private entities and illegal storage of P1.41 million worth of donated rice from Japan for typhoon Frank victims in 2008.
Graft charges were earlier filed against Edward King, former Pagcor senior vice president for Corporate Communications, Rene Figueroa, and Ester Hernandez.
Genuino sought the dismissal of the charges in October 2013. His appeal was denied by the anti-graft court on August 26 this year.
