HEAVY traffic is expected around the metropolis during the weekend as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conducts road re-blocking and repair activities along major thoroughfares, including Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
The road projects were given the greenlight by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) which granted DPWH permits undertake the repairs from 10 p.m. of Friday up to Monday at 5 a.m.
The MMDA said schedule of road re-blocking will be carried out at six several locations from June 21 to 24.
These include EDSA, from Seminary Road to Oliveros Street (southbound, 3rd lane) in Quezon City; from Monumento Circle, lane blocking after Benin Street, lane 5 after B. Serrano Street, lane before A. De Jesus, lane 3 before J. Mariano Street, (all southbound), Caloocan City; between General Simon Street and Monumento Circle (northbound, lane 6), Caloocan City.
Road works will also be performed along Commonwealth Avenue, from Luzon Avenue to North Susana (northbound, 4th lane,) Quezon City; and from North Susana to Luzon Avenue (southbound, second inner lane) Quezon City.
Also along Carlos P. Garcia Avenue between Magiting Street and Krus na Ligas (going Katipunan Avenue, 3rd lane from sidewalk) Quezon City.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said there is a need to fast track the
more than 70 pending road diggings and drainage projects which contribute to the widespread flooding in the metropolis.
The DPWH earlier vowed to rush numerous road works and drainage improvement projects which remained unfinished up to this time.
