ZAMBOANGA CITY: Police reported an explosion late Friday in Lamitan City in the restive Muslim autonomous region in southern Philippines. Police said the explosion occurred at a multi cab parked in front of the Evangelical Church in Maligaya Village. The area was immediately cordoned off and police said no casualties were reported from the blast. No other details were made available by the police on the explosion. Lamitan has been bombed many times in the past by the Abu Sayyaf, which is fighting for an Islamic caliphate in southern Philippines. Just last month, an improvised explosive went off at the Dangkalan Elementary School there, although there had been no casualties in the bombing.
