So extracts another draw, stays at No.2


Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So split the point with GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France in the ninth round to stay in the second spot in the 2015 Tata Steel Chess Tournament being held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.

So and Vachier-Lagrave are sharing the No. 2 position with six points each—full point behind solo leader World champion GM Magnus Carlsen of Norway (7.0 points).

Carlsen outplayed GM Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan in their ninth-round match.

So will be tackling GM Ding Liren of China in the 10th round before facing GM Ivan Saric of Croatia in the 11th round, GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands in the 12th and GM Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands in the final round of the tournament sanctioned by the International Chess Federation.

The other 10th-round matches are Carlsen versus GM Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine, Vachier-Lagrave versus GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek of Poland, GM Baadur Jobava of Georgia versus GM Fabiano Caruana of Italy, Saric versus Giri, Radjabov versus GM Levon Aronian of Armenia, and Van Wely versus women’s world champion Hou Yifan of China.

In the other ninth-round results, Aronian defeated Jobava, Giri toppled Ding, Wojtaszek agreed to a draw with Ivanchuk, Caruana split the point with Hou and Ivan Saric drew with Van Wely.
