Ombudsman Morales said “It’s not gonna happen,” when asked by reporters whether a motu propio investigation will be launched by her office against Senator Leila de Lima. A “you’ve got a friend” message to most. We call it “extrajudicial kinship.”
Reynaldo Umali said it will not contain any recommendations to prosecute Sen. de Lima as it wants to avoid the impression that the investigation was a witch-hunt against de Lima. Why did they do it in the first place?

Like the smoking ban EO, smog and pollutants will be outlawed. Factories and smoke-belching vehicles will only be allowed in designated exhaust areas. Grilling and barbecues next. Smoke signals will also be prohibited soon. Apprehending officers will be called “smokeys.” Fireworks will only be prohibited in the Senate and Congress discussions.

Typhoon Karen is now over, yet my women friends are still marking me “safe.” Either I am that shy or I just look like a hopeless stationary tropical depression to them.

“Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say…”
Then she sings to Ronnie Dayan:
”Hey you’ve got to hide your love away
Hey you’ve got to hide your love away.”

Tips for those who want to jump into tubes and vinyl revival:
Turntable: Second-hand Technics belt-driven or direct drives are safe to start with and you can get them cheap. Audio technica mm cartridges are good enough. Other excellent brands are old Denons, Thorens, Pioneer or Garrards.
Amplifier: start with a tube integrated amp (w preamp) preferably 25-50 watters. China-made are now very competitive in performance. Choose one with a built-in phono stage to save on buying a separate external unit. Old marantz and Pioneer tube stereo receivers are old reliables.
Speakers: a good second-hand pair of bookshelf speakers from reliable dealers will do. Bower & Wilkins, Wharfdale diamonds, JBL, Klipsch, Boston Acoustics, Altec Lansing, KLH, Advent are popular choices.
Records: there’s a lot of second-hand vinyl stores around now. They offer near mint or mint condition in very affordable prices. Japan-pressed vinyls are tops. Buy only the genres that you prefer. Remember, you are not a collector. Start small and enjoy the musicality.
A pale pilsen or a merlot paired with Trellis sisig or Mang Larry’s isaw can double the fun.

Leila D5 sings Peter and Gordon:
”Please lock me away
And don’t allow the day
Here inside where I hide
With my loneliness
I don’t care what they say I won’t stay
In a world without love.”

On Metro Traffic: Dear MMDA, do not vent your ire on private car owners. Give them an efficient mass transport system and they will leave their cars at home. The no-window number scheme is just a temporary relief. Get rid of those parked cars without garage in ALL major and side streets. Lease government or private vacant lots for their parking with affordable monthly parking fees. Once and for all, build provincial bus terminals OUTSIDE Metro Manila. Strictly enforce the yellow lanes. Designate terminals for tricycles, pedicabs, PUJs, UV Express on leased lots. Commuters will always walk to get there but not on side streets. Implement 30-second stops on designated city bus and taxi pick-up points. Get big malls to accept 24-hour or overnight parking since they are idle during the night. All road constructions should be done 10:00 pm-6:00 am when the traffic volume is less. Construction will be more productive than during the daytime with traffic interruptions. Discipline erring drivers with hefty penalties on violations. Make payment for violations easy through banks, ATMs, and 7-11 outlets. Impound and confiscate colorum vehicles and send them to needy rural and missionary areas. Implement outright dismissal of corrupt cops and traffic enforcers. Freeze new franchises. Improve drainage to prevent floods during the wet season. Synchronize traffic lights according to vehicle volume. And of course, decongest metropolitan areas throughout the country. The traffic menace KILLS livelihoods and costs billions daily.
