F2 Logistics hammered Sta. Lucia from the service box before unleashing a strong finishing kick to seal a 25-18, 25-16, 18-25, 25-10 victory in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Batangas City Coliseum in Batangas City.
Majoy Baron came up with a dominant performance for the Cargo Movers, who stretched their winning streak to four in this prestigious club league bankrolled by Rebisco, Gold’s Gym and Belo with TV5 as official broadcast partner.
With the win, F2 Logistics shut down its campaign in the preliminaries on top of Pool D with a 4-2 mark to enter the quarterfinals of this tourney that also has Senoh, Mikasa, Mueller and Grand Sport as technical sponsors on a high note.
Foton is still battling Petron as of press time to formalize its claim of the top spot in Pool C and the right to face either Cherrylume or Cocolife in the quarterfinals.
The Iron Lady Warriors and the Asset Managers will figure in the final day of preliminaries on Tuesday at the Baliwag Star Arena in Baliwag, Bulacan.
Baron, the reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player for De La Salle, had a fantastic all-around performance with 12 kills, three blocks and seven aces for game-high 22 points while Kim Dy had 12 markers for F2 Logistics, which slowed down in the third set before going for the kill in the fourth.
But F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus wasn’t completely happy, especially in the third set where they surrendered to the strong net defense of the Lady Realtors.
“I told them that it seems that we never learned our lesson in our first few games,” said de Jesus, who dropped their first two matches to powerhouse Cignal and Petron.
“Kapag nakakakuha kasi ng first two sets, medyo nagre-relax na sila at nawawala ang respeto sa kalaban. Ayaw na nilang mag-isip at dumepensa. Sabi ko hindi tayo mananalo kung maghihintay lang tayo ng errors ng kalaban. Kailangan irespeto natin sila.”
The Cargo Movers were actually leading by two, 4-2, in the early stretch of the fourth set before Baron unloaded a series of bombs from the service box to rip the game wide open with a 15-4 edge.
As if the damage wasn’t enough, Aby Marano and Ara Galang made their presence felt for an 18-6 lead before Kim Fajardo delivered a beautiful pass to fellow setter Shawna-Lei Santos to seal the victory.
Janine Navarro, Rialen Sante and MJ Phillips tallied eight points apiece for the Lady Realtors, who notched a 2-4 mark and could be stacked against heavyweight Petron in the quarterfinals pending the result of the final day of the preliminaries.
