Resorts World Manila (RWM), lit up with glitz and glam when its fifth major production, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, premiered at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) early this month.
Theater fans flocked to the integrated resort to witness the Tony Award-winning musical’s gala night headlined by Leo Tavarro Valdez, Jon Santos, and Red Concepcion. The production also features other stage luminaries such as Bituin Escalante, Lani Ligot, Timmy Canlas, Pinky Marquez, and the First Lady of Philippine Theater, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo. At the helm is veteran director Jaime del Mundo.
Receiving a standing ovation at the premiere’s curtain call, Priscilla has since been playing to a packed NPAT every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Notable celebrities and personalities who have caught the show’s retro fever include singer and actress Pinky Amador, who said: “The production is just fabulous—costumes, talent, make-up, wigs, design, direction, everything.”
Fellow actress Giselle Toengi acknowledged the production’s high energy by stating, “It’s such a fun, fun show!”
Master Showman German Moreno, described it as “fantastic,” while television host Paolo Abrera said, “Jon [Santos] is a friend and I have to say he did a great job, but so did the rest of the cast. It’s hard to pick a favorite one. It’s hard to pick a favorite part. It’s an excellent musical all around.”
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert offers an all-out retro party complete with fabulous costumes, over-the-top headdresses, and a parade of dance-floor favorites including “It’s Raining Men,” “Finally,” “I Love the Night Life,” “Color My World,” “Shake Your Groove Thing,” and “I Will Survive”.
