“FOR I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.’” — Jeremiah 29:11-13
We can face the future with hope and confidence.
One of the biggest fears of every person is the uncertainty of the future. No one knows the future except God alone. God is the only one who does know the future, and hHe is eager to guide us through it.
Another verse says, “We may make our plans, but God has the last word.” (Proverbs 16:1). In other words, planning without consulting God is just presumption. Allow God to unfold His plans for you for a better tomorrow. Start by praying, “God, what do you want me to do in 2016?” in every area of your personal and public life. This passage tells us that God’s plans are in the future and we should adjust our life accordingly and trust Him completely and obey his will and his directions in life completely according to His word.
We are also told to seek God wholeheartedly. To seek God wholeheartedly entails a change of heart and perspective in life: to see things in God’s perspective, to see the sufferings and the pains of people and the communities around us through the eyes of God. In the gospels, we were told that, “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’”(Matthew 9:36-38).
As we thank God today for the blessings of 2015, we can face the New Year with hope and confidence that God desires a hope and a future for everyone. In the coming year, seeing the realities of things around us, may we have the heart of compassion like that of Jesus. May we be the workers of transformation Jesus prayed for the lives of people and the nation. May we be the hands and feet of Jesus in bringing hope and a better future for the suffering people around us. May we be instruments of God’s grace and peace to everyone.
