CUSTOMS Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon skipped the fourth day of an investigation by the House of Representatives on the entry of P6.4 billion worth of drugs in the country due to a “dental emergency”, an official of the bureau said on Monday.
“He is in a dental emergency, your honors. He is in the hospital right now,” Customs Deputy Commissioner Natalio Ecarma 3rd told the committee on dangerous drugs.
Reps. Romero Quimbo of Marikina City, Rodel Batocabe of Ako Bicol party-list and Ace Barbers of Surigao del Norte, however, rejected Faeldon’s excuse.
“He should come to this inquiry later in the day. A dental emergency as a reason is so petty and unacceptable. He is the head of the bureau who is being accused of corruption. Even if he comes here on false teeth, he should show up. Less than a heart attack, he should be here. He is a soldier, after all,” Quimbo said, referring to Faeldon’s position as a Marine Captain.
“We are more than willing to wait for him to come here,” Barbers added.
