National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Region 10 agents arrested three more vendors of fake cigarettes in separate locations in Northern Mindanao recently.
Suspects Ricardo Rabago Jr. and Melodina Sabala of Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City were separately arrested while in the act of selling 6,000 and 4,000 packs, respectively of fake Mighty and Marvels cigarette brand variants in different areas of Barangay Poblacion, San Fernando in Bukidnon.
The NBI agents also seized sales invoice of the fake cigarettes issued by Happy Star Food Manufacturing and Marketing Corporation to Rabago.
Similarly, Sabala’s Suzuki Utility Vehicle (KVW-504) used in the transport and delivery of the counterfeit items was confiscated as part of the evidence.
Another team of NBI agents arrested a third suspect, Christian Uy of Barangay Poblacion in Valencia City, while in the act of selling 13,750 packs of fake Mighty and Marvels cigarette brand variants in his own sari-sari (variety) store upon a complaint of Mighty Corp.
The operations were covered by search warrants issued by Judge Isobel Barroso of the Regional Trial Court Branch in Malaybalay City.
Charges for violation of Section 155 (trademark infringement) in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, were filed against the arrested suspects.
