SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union: A man who introduced himself as a major general of the International Police Commission (Interpol) was arrested here on Friday for alleged large scale swindling, threats and usurpation of authority. Supt. Julius Suriben, the city police chief, identified the suspect as Alfredo Martelino, 53, a resident of Barangay Nibaliw, Mangaldan, Pangasinan and a native of Hulo, Santo Domingo, Nueva Ecija. Suriben said the suspect was arrested after he was accused of swindling at least ten persons from this city and in San Juan, La Union where he allegedly collected P15,000 each from the victims whom he promised to employ as officers of his lending company. The victims also paid P3,000 each to the suspect after he convinced them to become members of Interpol.
