Global Port Batang Pier put away the Kia Carnival 102-94 behind a dominating performance from import Jarrid Famous in the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Following a 108-80 blowout win against the NLEX Road Warriors in their last game, the Batang Pier squad finished with another late game blitz that helped seal the victory. Global Port outplayed their opponents in the fourth quarter of the game to grab their biggest lead at 15 points with 4:21 remaining in the game.
The former Sacramento Kings center Hamady N’Diaye led a comeback attempt for the Carnival in the late minutes. He scored 10 points in the final quarter including a slamdunk to get them within six points in the final two minutes. But a clutch three-pointer by Terrence Romeo sealed the victory for Global Port.
Famous played relentlessly on the boards, grabbing a total of 37 rebounds while also leading the team in scoring with 30 points plus two blocks. On the flipside, Famous recorded a league worst for a player this season with 11 turnovers in the game.
Romeo continued his hot shooting streak, finishing with 27 points, while also dishing out six assists.
N’Diaye finished with 29 points, 13 rebounds, and a game high six blocks for the Carnival. Karl Dehesa and Joshua Webb chipped in 20 and 15 points, respectively.
Global Port’s last game is on June 23 against the top seeded Alaska Aces. With a 6-4 win-loss record, the Batang Pier squad is on track to move on in the next round where only the top eight teams would be competing.
