Far Eastern University buried winless University of the Philippines (UP), 85-71, on Sunday in UAAP men’s basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Mike Tolomia scored 18 points to lead the Tamaraws’ assault on the Fighting Maroons, who have not won in 25 games in a losing streak that began in 2011.
FEU unleashed a 25-8 attack in third period to build a 70-46 edge heading into the final quarter.
The Tamaraws improved to 2-1 record, while UP joins Adamson University in the bottom of the standings. UP has a 0-4 card, and Adamson, 0-3.
“We were able to correct those mistakes in our last game against UST (University of Santo Tomas) although we still struggled today,” said FEU head coach Nash Racela. “That has always been the emphasis-team play.”
Backing up Tolomia were Mark Belo with 12 points and nine rebounds, Roger Pogoy and Carl Cruz with 11 points each and American 6’6 center Anthony Hargrove with 10.
JR Gallarza shot 18 points to lead the Fighting Maroons.
