A farmer died late Wednesday night after a knife duel with a colleague in a village in Las Nieves, Agusan de Norte, police said Friday.
Reports reaching the Philippine National Police national operations center in Camp Crame said Alfredo Dahuya, was killed by Elbert Montes, 33, when they fought it out with bolos.
The two are residents of Barangay Durian in Las Nieves.
Durian barangay chairman Saturnino Kipkipan told police the duel took place at the house of a certain Ceasar Lagui, where Dahuya and Montes were having drinks.
Dahuya reportedly challenged Montes to a duel. Montes draw his bolo, locally called a sundang and hacked Dahuya several times.
Montes voluntarily surrendered to authorities and was detained at the Las Nieves Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
