FARMER IN KALINGA GUNNED DOWN

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet: A farmer in Rizal town, Kalinga was peppered with bullets on Tuesday afternoon, police said suspecting that the killing may be linked to an old grudge. Manuel Batario, 50, of Macutay, Rizal town in Kalinga was heading to his rice field on his motorcycle at around 3:50 p.m. when three still unknown assassins wearing helmets and black shirts trailed him before they opened fire. His relatives rushed the farmer, who sustained several wounds from a .45, to Juan M. Duyan District Hospital where he died. Investigators found two spent .45 shells in the farmland near where the shooting occurred.
