President Benigno Aquino 3rd is now studying the appeal of Cadet First Class Aldrin Jeff Cudia who has been dismissed from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) for violating the honor code.
“Kanina lang po ay nandoon ako sa Tanggapan ng Pangulo at sinabi niyang pinag-aaralan niya ‘yung appeal [I was in the President’s office earlier and he said he is studying the appeal],” Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. told reporters in a press briefing.
He said that it is “reasonable to expect that among the factors being considered was the timeliness of the decision.”
Coloma stressed that “truth and fairness are primary guide posts in deciding” Cudia’s appeal.
But he noted that the President would also factor in the recommendations of the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, which has affirmed the decision of the PMA.
“Lahat po ng mga relevant considerations ay isasaalang-alang ng ating Pangulo [All relevant considerations are being considered by the President],” he added
Cudia was set to graduate as class salutatorian before he was dismissed by the PMA for supposedly lying about the reason for being late for a class.
Coloma said that the PMA Honor Code “is an essential building block on the character formation of future leaders and members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.”
“Its basic objective is to prepare and fortify the mindset and the value set of the prospective Armed Forces officer as these will eventually be put to a severe test in the battlefield and arenas of conflict, where the officer will be deployed upon commissioning,” he added
The President, the commander in chief of the Armed Forces, will be the guest of honor in the graduation rites of PMA Class “Siklab Diwa [Sundalong Ikararangal ng Lahing Bayani sa Diwang Wagas]” of 2014 on Sunday.
